hi,
I've been fooling around on my kindle (k4nt), (got USBnetwork to work, tried to setup vncviewer by hawhill, used kranu's webserver), in an attempt to play NEOscavenger on my kindle. Is there a way to have the kindle send keystrokes to the pc, possibly over putty?
I could then have kranus webserver running and program a small autoit3 script that translates the kindle output into windows keystrokes and mouse movements. I picture the kindle sending the pressed keys, it popping up as some identfying string in the putty console. Then I could copy the console's contents to the clipboard and parse for the identifying

I bought myself a basic kindle to go with my 2012 paper white and the one thing that I have noticed is that my new basic is a whole lot faster than my old paper white one. So my question is this how fast is the new voyage when compared to the new 2014 basic kindle?
I won't pay the extra dollars for the screen resolution, which forum members have said is rather subtle difference between the 2013 paper white and the voyage or the light sensor however if the voyage can beat or match the 2014 basic for speed and Amazon will except my old paper white in trade they might have a deal there.

I read somewhere that kindle free time works with fire tv. Is that correct? I would really like to have parental controls on my pre ordered fire tv stick.

HI,
I just started my free month of kindle unlimited and have been enjoying it so far. I do plan on getting prime as a Christmas gift so that we can get the streaming services on the fire tv stick. Do you get the same books with Kinlde Unlimited as a prime member? I am just trying to understand what books are free to prime members. I just need to know if I need both Unlimited and Prime.

Just after the Fire TV (FTV) was released (Apr 2014), I started downloading free apps that were FTV specific only, even though I didn't have a FTV. I figured one day I'll be glad I did. Well, that day has arrived now that I've ordered a Fire TV Stick (FTVS). The website I use to get the heads up on free apps is --
AFTVnews. It used to be
known as fireTVnews, but
Amazon slapped it down last Jul. Anyway, this blog is full of cool info about the Fire TV.
BTW, this FTV compatible app is currently free --
BombSquad. It's normally $4.99
according to AFTVnews. It has a 4.8 rating. No idea how long it'll remain free.

I am sorry if someone has made a similar thread already, but I don't think so as I could not find any comparison between Kindle 4 and kindle Voyage.
I would be grateful if you could tell me if your Voyage looks like that too:
So I got a Kindle Voyage two days ago, and as I compared it with my Kindle 4 I can't say that the screen is whiter.
Over the forum people say that the screen is much brighter than on the Paperwhite, so I don't understand why it would be less bright than good old Kindle 4.
I also read that people complain of a yellowish color, but only in regards to the front light.
My kindle Voyage, though, seems yellower to me with the light all down than my Kindle 4. Actually when I turn the light all the way up it is uniform with no blue or yellow spot, rather perfectly white-ish. But I never use the front light. So is the color of my Voyage normal or should I send it back as flawed?
Here are two pictures, the first one is what it looks in real life (more or less, the "yellowness" is more visible in reality).
On the second version of the picture I pushed up the contrast to find out if there was really yellow involved.
It appears that color wise my old Kindle 4 is better... Is this the normal color for the Voyage?
What do you think?

I just stumbled across the KoReader app for jailbroken PaperWhites & Touch Kindles that is pretty darned amazing.

and a whole lot more. Basically, it's a much better reader than Kindle's native reader. I had no idea that this existed so I thought I'd share the information.

Hello,
Is it possible to install the module in the Kindle Touch 3G WiFi ONLY. I have this module from the damaged KT 3g. I installed it on my Kindle, but nothing has changed.
In my KT I have simcard slot and 3G antenna pigtail, so I think it's possible.
I tried to change some in modprobe.conf but brick happens. I do not know where to look for solutions. Maybe this is a restriction the built-in firmware?

Hi,
I hope that somebody who has experience dismantling the Kindle 4 can help me.
For a very abnormal reason I need to replace the front screen cover of my kindle with glass (perhaps tempered or gorilla). I am not reffering to the whole screen device but rather just the layer of transparent plastic which comprises the front of the screen.

Can somebody please let me know how feasible it would be to firstly detach the plastic transparent layer and then attach a glass replacement?

I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it.
I received my Kindle Voyage yesterday and it is a very impressive screen in terms of font sharpness and black on white contrast (I already had the PW2). But, without NiLuJe's screensaver and font hacks, I'm not sure I want to keep it for the small upgrade-- and high additional cost -- it represents.
Are any developers here intending to get the device and try to work on it? Can I help in any way (short of removing the back cover!)? My software is listed as 5.5.0, and my serial number starts with B054. I presume it would be idiotic to try the most recent jailbreak exploit on this new device?
Absent the wonderful hacks of this forum -- or at least a reasonable prospect that they will be coming -- I think this KV is going back to Amazon. Aside from the marginally better screen, I find the other upgrades not all that helpful. The physical page turn press areas are misplaced (too low) for how I hold the device, and the auto dimmer function, for me, over dims in normal and bright light and I have quickly turned it off. Certainly they're not worth the trade-off of not having Georgia font on my device and my book covers as screensavers!

My Fire HD 6 has just arrived and i've hit a potential snag already. :(
Can someone tell me if what I am seeing (and what Amazon is saying) is correct. The scenario is that I have 400 ebooks in Amazon's cloud, all as Personal Documents. All sent there via Send to Kindle. They were sent in mobi format.
In the Docs tab I can see the ebook covers only in Collection view.
In List view I just get the generic white kindle cover with a K and the word KINDLE in orange.
I can however see the covers in the Carousel
I can see all covers on my Paperwhite 1 and in my ipad Kindle app in all views, including List view and Collection view.
Amazon are telling me this correct behavoir :eek:
I test computer systems for a living and to me this is poor programing if this is the case.
Is this the way it is?

I am wondering if there is an esy way to only setup quiet hours on a Kindle Fire. I do not want to go in every time we purchase a book or app and add it as authorized content on a profile in FreeTime. I just want the kindle to lock out at 10:30 every night and unlock at 5:30 AM. Any suggestions on the easiest way to do this?

Where, except ebay and amazon I know about those two sources, have you found your lowest prices on cases and pouches? I have two pouches for my two readers, however the older of the two is wearing out, its rather old so I am not complaining, and the store where I got it does not sell the pouches any more. The old one was an el cheapo when I got it and lasted a rather long time so I will probably go with an el cheapo again.

On 29th September I ordered a "Forefront Cases® New Leather Shell Case Cover for Amazon Kindle Voyage" from Amazon UK:

On 3rd October I received a dispatch notification, with a delivery estimate of 17th-25th October.
Since nothing had arrived by this week, I sent an email to Forefront Cases, asking where my case was, and received the following reply:

Look at the product for yourself - where on it does it say "3-5 weeks", and why did they claim to have shipped it on 3rd October when they have in fact not done so? :chinscratch:

I've been reading all over the web and still can't seem to get the info I want.
I want to make temporary changes to system files while a program is running.
For example, if I wanted to make a change to /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf which is in the read-only system files, I want to "bind mount" and make a change to that file (with sed or whatever), then unmount it when I want. How do I do that?
I try:
touch alsa.conf
mount --bind /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf alsa.conf
sed -ie s/cards.pcm.front/cards.pcm.default/g alsa.conf
error - cant move alsa.conf3ETwkI to alsa.conf -> obviously sed made a temp file and tried to move it to a read-only file.
Is this even possible? I'm thinking it's just the syntax I'm doing wrong?
edit: yep it's just the syntax. I made an edited rw file and can bind that to the ro system file.
ie: mount --bind bind/alsa.conf /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
that seems to work fine. I'll add it to my pianobar script...
