I have just taken delivery of my Voyage. I have started to add books and collections over. But. When I try and name collections, it says 'that name already exists. Please enter a different name.' How do I get round this, I don't want to have to completely rename all my collections on my Voyage.
I basically want to keep the collection names as they are on my PW1.
or is this not possible because of blasted cloud collections?

As I'm sure you know, the Voyage doesn't support user-loaded "active content", and apparently a CS rep has indicated that an attempt to run active content could have been responsible for damaging the system partition on a user's Voyage, resulting in application errors, crashes, etc.
How likely is this scenario? Could active content damage the system partition?

So I know that non-Amazon titles aren't supposed to be synced to the cloud collections. No problem.
But here is the weirdness -- I have some non-Amazon books that were in collections, then I took them out (I take books out of collections when I'm reading them), but every time I turn on wifi and sync with Amazon -- they end up back in the old collection. Despite the nag that changes to this collection will not be synced.
Something is syncing somehow. I've tried forcing a "sync and look for new" when I first connect, the books don't move, but a few minutes later -- boom, back in old collections.
Anyone know of a way to fix this?
There really, really has to be a better way of managing collections overall that doesn't require a jailbreak.

Hello everyone. I am considering to buy a Kindle Paperwhite 2014 (released 8/2014 - 4GB) - PW 2014 . I have read some threads in forum and some articles. But theses don't show clearly the differences between Kindle Paperwhite 2014 - 4GB and Kindle Paperwhite 2013 Gen2 (released beginning 2014 - 2GB) - PW 2013.
Through articles, i get some info about PW2014:
- It has more storage: 4GB.
- The screen get warmer, slight yellowist than PW 2013.
- The uneven lighting problem is solved.
- It has more software features : Vocabulary Builder & Kindle Freetime
- It has a litte bit faster processor
And the others technical details is identical to the PW 2013
All the differences is above, isn't it? Please correct and discuss these issues.

Amazon don't seem to have enough Voyages to meet the demand: the WiFi model is now showing "1 to 2 month" availability; the 3G model is "in stock on 8th December"!

My Kindle keyboard has been working marvelously and is fully charged. Now the screen freezes. I've done a restart 3 or 4 times (holding the switch for 20 seconds to 45 seconds to have it reboot). I will get my library and then it freezes there. I remember reading something somewhere on this forum about a kindle that is 'bricked', but can't seem to find out if it applies or how to unbrick the Kindle. I did some searching on the web, but many of the links are old and go nowhere. Help please!

This is a reposting of a string of messages that I found useful. This will get the string out of the middle of a 65++ page thread, and make these posts more searchable in the future.
The thrust is "I want to see collections plus books that aren't in a collection and it isn't clear to me how to do that."

Hi guys!
Today I bought a Kindle 4 for my mother. I registrered and everything is fine.
I don't know why, but when I press back button, after a few times, it ends on the register device screen. There's any way to avoid that? It's annoying....
Thanks!

Ok so I have all my books downloaded from the cloud, and set into collections. I did this a while ago. Now, my collections will have the correct number of books listed in it, but when I open the collection, some or even all are missing from the collection. I don't know what is going on, anyone have a clue on what the deal is?

I'm still trying out the Kindle Voyage and have had it for two weeks. When I turn it on for the first time of the day, I'd say every other day it has that bug:
It's stuck in the book I was reading when it went into sleep mode; no way to use the home button or dictionnary, or anything, only page turns, go to, and I think frontlight setting.
It displays the message "The selected application could not be started, try again" whatever I try to do.
If I turn off the screen and turn it back on, it gives a black screen with a keyboard at the bottom. If I try the short restart, nothing happens.
The only way to un-bug it is a long restart (pressing the on button for 20 sec.)
I've read some similar statements in the comments at Amazon.com. Do you guys get anything like this? Do you think a software update could correct it?
Does your Kindle Voyage have any bug?
(That's annoying because other than that and the surprisingly low battery life, my KV has none of the screen problems people complain about...)

Hi All
I am considering a Kindle Basic 2014 reader for my Dad and would like to know the following compared to my Sony PRS-650 reader:
1. Can I use the Sony PRSA-AC1 charger (specs as below) to charge the Kindle Basic ?
INPUT:100V-240V~ , ______50/60hz, 0.2A
OUTPUT:5V 1500mA
TYPE:ACC-211UC
2. Would the Collections from Calibre update automatically on the Kindle Basic ? or would I have to create them manually (Ooo! not looking forward to that) ?
3. Does the Kindle Basic allow for standby screens like the PRS-650 ?
4. Since the Kindle does not support epub (which is basically my entire library), do I convert the ebooks on Calibre to mobi or azw3 format to put on the Kindle Basic ?
Thanks
Shaleen

Hi,
thought I share some pics from my Disassembled Kindle - Its actually easier to take apart than the PW was (less Glue) Thanks to a nice slide to unlock case design.
The Serial port pins are easy to identify so you can solder some wires to them and after that boot to uboot (Port Settings: 115200-8-1). In uboot you can start DIAG Mode and the root password for DIAG mode can be calculated from the Kindle serial with the newest dev-version of
KindleTool.
After that you can mount the system partition set a root password for it and then install the jailbreak components manually.

I'm interested to know how many people find the automatic light sensor on the Voyage to be effective.
If you have a Voyage - and only if you have a Voyage! - please vote as to whether:
1. You have the light sensor enabled and find the resulting screen brightness to be satisfactory.
2. You don't use it because it makes the screen too bright.
3. You don't use it because it makes the screen too dim.

I am selling my KFHD hopefully next week. I have deregistered it, which deleted all the apps. My sideloaded books are still on it apparently as well as wifi connectivity passwords so I can download.
In any case, I want to download/install ES File Explorer, MX, and a reading app or two so that I can demonstrate the device to prospective buyers.
I need to be able to install ES so that I can install the other apps. I have done this once before, but it was a long time ago (Dec 2012).
Any help?
Thank you!

Morning all,
I'm having a small problem with collection syncing on the Voyage.
I have emailed myself a book file and I'm trying to add it to a collection. When I do so I am getting a message saying "Content Not Synced - You have added items to this collection that will not be synced with the cloud"
I have emailed myself loads of books in the past, and these have all synced into their collections just fine. Indeed, when I first turned on my Voyage and it downloaded the cloud collections all my books were in their correct collections as I had set them on my Paperwhite.
Any ideas why this I'm getting this message now?
I also had it on a book that I purchased from Amazon yesterday so I'm wondering if there is a problem with collection syncing on the Voyage.

I've finally got most of my books into the correct collections, so now I want to see which books aren't in a collection yet. My ideal view, which I used to have on the KK, would show me a list of all my collections, and then any 'orphaned' books that aren't in a collection yet.
From what I've gathered, to get this view I need to have the filter set to All Items, and then sort by Collections. I have two queries about this:
1) is that right?
2) no matter what combination of 'cloud/on device' and 'all items/books/collections/documents' I select, the order by dropdown always has collections greyed out. Now I know this used to work a few days ago; any idea why the option isn't available now? It's not still busy indexing, if that helps...

Is there any download for a cross-compiled ffmpeg for the Kindle touch? I have been trying to find that for a few hours now, so I was wondering if anyone else knew.

If I were to get a Kindle Paperwhite 2, would it be easy to jailbreak it and install KOReader?
