Kindle 4 NT (Non-Touch) stuck at loading screen after jailbreak and factory reset.

Hi everyone, :)

This is my first post and thread on this forum ( Yay ! ), so please be kind to me. I really needed help.

So I had just accumulated enough courage to jailbreak my Kindle 4 NT that my cousin gave me a while ago (after said cousin broke the e-ink but I got a spare off e-bay for cheap then replace the screen ). I did it using this link : http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle4NTHacking

Although that it worked perfectly, I decided to wipe it using kindle's reset menu since I don't want my cousin's book to be on there ( an action which I would then soon regret) after it is jailbroken. It all went south from there.

My newly repaired kindle is now stuck at loading screen.

It has a weird symptoms as follows

1. The computer would detect the kindle when it is connected via usb cable and mount ( This is on a Windows PC) while showing the stuck loading screen

2. I can also make it go to diagnostic mode by creating ENABLE_DIAG blank file on kindle drive from 1 or using magic down key and power button with MfgTool.

3. The usbnet thing worked and I was able to SSH into it, including flashing the image onto the kindle. But it had no effect ( no error on dd)

Here are the things that I had tried so far.

- 1. draining battery and charge it up again (to no avail) :smack:

- 2. tried using kubrick CD to restore it. Got nothing either
( It has finished its task, but after rebooting it still stuck at loading screen )

- 3. I also tried using MfgTool + down key power sequence to enter diagnostic mode then setup usbnet and SSHed into the kindle. I then flashed the mmcblk0p.img (ver 4.0.0) using dd then reboot to no avail. ( per information on http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=169645)

-4. I also remove everything in /var/local but still no effect.

Can anyone help me on this matter, I really don't want to buy a new kindle since I just spent money fixing the e-ink screen.

Thank you in advance
Mo:thanks:

Cloud Reader A furhter question of the kind: how can I access my personal documents through my PC?

$

I've already done a good amount of searches in this forum and maybe still would need to, but I could not afford to spend too much time on searching, so I felt obliged to post. I'll try to be as short as possible. Also, I thought it would be nice if this could be an updated reference for other users experiencing the same problem. (Provided there's any need for this.)

I own a 2nd generation Kindle Paperwhite, and as many others I'd need to access my personal documents via the Cloud Reader browser app - with highlights, notes, reading progress and more all synced.

We know that Amazon restricts this. So my question is: is there any supported way or workaround allowing me to do this? Alternatively, is there any software for jailbreaked devices that permits these features? (I just glanced at this, just for example. I have indeed a very broad idea of it.)

I must also ask you, and I really care about this, how other manufacturers handle this. Does Kobo, for example, allow accessing personal documents through the web reader? What about other producers? I'd be really interested in them and willing to switch.

For now, the only workable solution I've found is that of installing an Android emulator - in my case - in which to run the Kindle reader app. But maybe this is just an expedient and better solutions do really exist.

Looking forward any of your inputs. :)

PW3 Use kindle-jailbreak-1.14.N.zip on Paperwhite 3

Hello Everybuddy,

I used these forum a lot in the last years but these is my first post.

I managed to Jailbreak the PW3 with these Tutorial:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=263113

Everything worked nicely and I am happy.

I have Several Problems so far. The Main problem is that any .bin file gets removed by the Kindle after placing it at the root system. I can not chose "Update Kindle" because after reconnection the USB the .bin file is gone.

For Example I would like to install the USBNet from here:
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=186645

But the .bin file gets always removed.

I want to install the USBnet because i want to use these Manual to remove the adds: REDACTED. I could do these by the Serial connection. But then I need to open the Kindle again and i am not sure how often the glue sticks properly.

My other Problem is that i would use the coolreader inside of the KUAL.
KUAL is working and also the HELPER file from KUAL is working.
But i do not manage to get vlasovsoft running from here:
http://wiki.vlasovsoft.net/doku.php?id=en:pbchess-1.2.6#amazon_kindle
I copied the files exactly how it says in the file:
  1. vlasovsoft folder into flash root
  2. Copy the extensions folder into flash root

But nothing works the Kindle goes back to the main screen when I tap "vlasovsoft" in the KUAL program.

I think there is a general Problem with the Kindle Paperwhite 3 and the Jailbreak which I used because to many thinks seem not to work properly.

I would be very happy if i can have some feedback what i could do to fix some of the issues.

Kind regards Alex

Kindle 2 enter button problem

Hello everyone, I've received a used Kindle 2 from someone and the enter button, acts like a delete function not as a confirming one. Can't open things. I'm thinking a software issue?

How to upgrade? On their site I have the option to manually upgrade, transfering the update through usb cable but still needs a action button, like enter to select it.

Any idea?

Thanks!

I'm trying to figure out the best way to convert the myclippings.txt into individual .mobi or text files so that I can then import back to the Kindle, with only the highlighted sections and not the repeated book title and bookmark information.

Anyone have insight on a current easy way to do this? Please discuss

Hi guys,
Tried searching for my problem but seems like I am the only one facing this problem.

I have a kindle pw2
The firmware is 5.6.1.0.2

I m unable to reset the device. Whenever I reset it. It goes back into some old setting .

The process is like
1. Reset kindle (used all possible methods). Tried deregisteration as well. No fun
2. Device reboots.
3. All books are on device. Forgotten wi fi
4. Shows device registered in my name (without me even entering any details)
5. I enter wi fi password, the device is now de registered, but all books still on my device. Even if I delete books one by one (or from pc), the books keep reappearing.
6. Registered the device to a different Amazon account. All the books are still on the device.
7. New side loaded books are removed automatically.
8. If I restart(not reset) the device the device reverts back to point 3.
9. The firmware update is showing greyed out.
10. Tried manual update but the device keeps deleting the update (5.6.5).

So friends, help me by either pointing to some new method. I can open the device but I need help my be in form of some video or step by step guide.

Hope I have made your weekend worthwhile. 😜😜😜

I have not been able to identify this part.
Tried both visible light and strong UV light.

Did check a few semi-conductor catalogs for a six pin device with D- and D+ run to those pins, without any luck.
Which just means that I couldn't find it, not that it isn't in someones catalog.

What I did not check was application notes from Freescale.
They might have something with recommended parts to use on the OTG port.

K3 Alternate Jailbreak method -> 5-way controller broken

Hello,

My 5-way controller is broken, and I want to reassign keys in order to keep using my K3w.

The Jailbrake method i've found requires the 5-way keys in order to select the "Update Kindle" option.

Is there an alternate way (auto-update, through terminal, etc) to jailbreak the Kindle? Basically, my "enter" key is broken and I can't do anything useful with the keyboard besides navigating on the main screen ://///

Kindle Voyage Review (from the guy who wrote that jumbo Kindle vs. Kobo article)

Hi folks, me again!

I'm sharing another article I recently published. If you recall, a while ago I posted a very in-depth examination of how Kindles and Kobo e-readers compare and was delighted at how much great feedback and discussion was sparked around here.

At the time, I was only given access to the Kobo Aura H2O and the Paperwhite 1 & 2. Since then, I've been able to spend time with the Paperwhite 3 and—finally—the Voyage, which still isn't available in Canada.

This is mostly a review of the Voyage and how it compares to the Paperwhite 3, but I also take some time later in the article to speculate about some potential future paths for the product line.

Without further ado:

As always, I hope it's helpful!

And for the record, I don't run ads of any kind on my blog, nor do I use affiliate links or any other form of sneaky monetization, so you can read in peace.

5.6.5 jailbreak and Amazon's vertical integration/monopoly

To be honest - this was my presumption as well. I dont know which discussions are going on in the background - take your time, figure it out. Hopefully. :)

You all missed another important discussion here already - perhaps, because you are looking so intently at the "service" part - when you are discussing what this community provides -

That amazon now controls

- the format (proprietary nature of kfx (format))
- the distribution (only Amazon can distribute kfx)
and
- production (only Amazon can produce kfx)

really warrants a discussion, that did not take place in here at all. In Germany we have media science professors at the largest political/industry/media summits of the year talking about the new concept of "the industrialisation of distribution formats" - where all cultural aspects are stripped away from what we in the past called media (in this case an eBook).

This hasnt been the topic of discussion on the international level at all.

This is me saying - think about the issues, take your time - but eventually, be productive - because, our societies need this group of people.

Hacks Asking for a way to extend dictionary box on K4NT

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum, so let say nice to meet all of you.
I am a non-native English speaker so sorry for my poor English.
I have a 3 years old Kindle Basic 2012 firmware 4.1.3 and I still love it very very much. Yesterday I've just come across this forum and for the first time knowing that my K4 can be jailbroken. Yay!
And now after installed fonts, screensaver,... I wonder if there's any hack that allow my K4 to extend its vocabulary box. Sometime the box is too small that I can't see enough words to understand a new vocabulary and I have to open Full definition, it's really slow and distracted.
Thank you very much!

Restrictions on sideloading?

I saw a post on another forum claiming the new Kindle Fire ($49 cheapie one) was restricted from sideloading books. I didn't find anything doing a search. It specifically mentions sideloading from the sd card.

Is it really restricted from sideloading.....I can't imagine that would be true....but....

WiFi freeze on K3 4.3.2

On occasion I run into a "WiFi freeze" on my K3 where when I go into settings and select the WiFi settings the selection shades but never shows the networks available. After a while the shading goes away and I never see the networks available.

The only way I have found to deal with this situation is to use the LaunchPad [Shitft][Shift]R shortcut to restart the K3, which of course takes several minutes before I can again use the K3.

I have myts installed and can access a terminal window on the K3. Is there a terminal window command I can issue that could correct this without need for the restart?

Question about memory

Two years ago I bought the most inexpensive Kindle available, which at that time we here called the "Kindle 4." It has the page buttons on the side and the four-way button below the screen.

I have most of my Kindle books on Amazon's cloud, but plenty on the Kindle as well.

I believe that the unit is changing pages much more slowly than it did when it was new. Could it be that this is caused by my having too many books on the unit, and not enough remaining memory?

Currently it has 258 MB free. Any recommendations regarding the best amount of free memory to have?

Thanks!

New version of K4PC this morning

My installation of K4PC auto-updated itself this morning to version 1.12.4. No obvious changes, and "the tools" still work fine with it. It downloaded half a dozen new books that I'd bought, all of which were downloaded as KF8, so no sign of KFX for this application yet.

I'm sure this has been discussed, so if someone could point me to a link, that would be great.... or if you could tell me how much of a difference there is between the two, that would be great. I have the PW2 but, i just like the latest! :p Thank you!
