Problem with pages, cover and Cloud

Hi, I'm new to Kindle and I have some ebooks that I would like to read on my kindle. But there are some problems:
- When I send them via email, they don't show the pages nor the cover. But they are on the cloud so I can read them on my phone with the Kindle app.
- When I send them via USB, they show the pages and the cover, but they are not on the cloud.

Anyone has a solution so I can have them on the cloud, showing the cover and the pages? I already tried connecting the Kindle to Calibre, changing some settings, putting the ASIN on Calibre, and nothing works.

Old jailbreaked Paperwhite 3 accidentally updated to 5.13.4

Hi,
My Paperwhite 3 (G090) was accidentally updated to 5.13.4 don't remember which version I was on before but then it was jailbreaked is there a way to get back ?
When I try to launch "kindle launcher" it says "Application Error" the selected application could not be started. Please try again. :angry:

It looks like Amazon stopped supporting the old Kindle for PC that could be run via Wine - while you can still install version 1.17 or 1.3 or whatever, they won't connect to Amazon.

Does anyone know of another solution for converting Kindle (without DRM) to some usable format (Preferably ePub)?

HDX Brick Kindle fire hdx 7. Help please!

Hey guys. I wanted to flash the device, but when I was flashing it, I transferred it to fastboot and after which it passed out. After that, it does not react at all. I tried charging and tried to restore the brick using manuals from the forums. I even bought a factory cable, connected it but the device does not put it into fastboot mode. I just have a black screen all the time, even when I try to charge. It feels like he is completely dead, but at the same time, when connected to a PC via USB, it shows something. Device when connected to PCLO definition as QHUSB_BULK. Now writes Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed).
As a result, I cannot revive him in any way. I tried many manuals from Google, but it doesn't. Maybe you need to disassemble it? What do you advise?

I've been using 1.17 on Mojave but just migrated to Big Sur, where it doesn't work.

And I don't want 1.30, which is all I can find that will work on BS.

Hi there,

So my kindle updated to 5.13.4 a couple of weeks ago, and I'm desperate to try kindle break.

I ordered a KOA3 from amazon this morning, but have just noticed that the 5.13.4 update was released in December (I thought it had only been a few weeks).

I will probably cancel the order - I hate not having the book cover for the screen 'saver', but I like pretty much everything else about my current KOA3.

The important bit of my post:
Can anyone tell me which firmware was on their recently ordered kindle from amazon?

P.S. I saw the comment from the person who bought one at BestBuy and it was on 5.12.4 - I 'need' the gold one though, which is not available for pick up from them.

Error files on library

I don't know why many "files" keep popping up in my library. If I try to open them they will load forever and not show anything. I haven't sent any file to my cloud, they just appear out of nowhere. If I delete them they quickly reappear. I don't know the technical term for it that's why I couldnt find any related thread. Below is how they look:

K4 Mac or PC K4Mac and Amazon Drive (Personal documents)

I know this is a common topic but searching the forum, most of the topics are pretty old.

I know K4Mac doesn't show personal documents and ALL the books on my Kindle Voyage are emailed as personal docs.

However, I googled some old tip about possibly using Amazon drive as a hack.

Except (of fvcking course Amazon!) K4Mac creates its own "My Kindle content" folder in whatever folder I point it at instead of using the empty root folder or Amazon drive's "My Send-to-Kindle Docs".

Has anyone managed to get K4Mac to use a different folder?

I read that Send to Kindle doesn't send books to Amazon Drive now unless I do it manually from the Content & Devices page. But I''m hoping K4Mac can see the personal docs I manually add to Amazon Drive and I can still benefit from whispersync ...

PW3 possessed

My PW3 has been acting up lately. It is running firmware 5.8.9.0.1 and I jailbroke it as soon as I got it. I've been running KUAL and KOReader on it for a few years and suddenly one day I started it up and all my EPUBs disappeared.

After a bit of fussing, I managed to reload KUAL and Koreader and everything worked for a few days but I was noticing that the battery was running low. It turns out that it was turning on randomly with full backlight and the power button had sudddenly become super sensitive. Instead of pressing and feeling the click of the button, I could just brush past the button and it woudl turn on or off.

Having no books to unwind before bed is driving me nuts. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Fake Night mode

This is a little KUAL extension that leverages the method on this thread to allow a sort of fake night mode on non-PW Kindles (i.e. ones where night mode is not supported).

As it uses fbdepth and fbink, it requires USBNet installed.

Caveats:
  • I've tested this only on my KT4, I'm not really sure how it'll behave on other models - worse case scenario, if it breaks horribly, like the screen blanks out, freezes, or doesn't seem to respond to touches, you may need to force reboot your Kindle;
  • When in night mode, ghosting effects are much more pronounced; you'll either have to force a screen refresh very often (by touching the status bar, then back at the center of the book) or just leave page refresh on all time time (Settings > Reading Options > Page Refresh). YMMV, of course, that was just my experience with the KT4;
  • The night mode setting doesn't survive a reboot.

To install, just drop the contents of the zip file inside the extensions folder on the internal storage.

Problems with TTS reading

Hi,and I'm wondering what's going on with TTS on my PW4.
There is a headphone icon on the right bottom when I open Chinese books and it can be read by my device, however when I open English books there isn't, and I can only use voiceview to listen these books, which annoyed me that it is hard to operate and stops and stucks for about a second when changing pages.
So please help me!!!

Kindle DX no longer syncs (esp. date/time)

Hi
I have been using a couple of DX2s for 10 years - the best device I ever owned. I bought one to read PDFs off-screen but as my eyes have deteriorated, I now use it (and it's more recently purchased backup) just for reading in general.

Recently, however, problems have emerged. I can no longer connect to 3G - probably because there is no longer any 3G here as we progress from 4G to 5G locally. I never really purchased much content from Amazon so I don't have a problem that I can no longer download books but I do have a problem with dates...

In the past I found I had to connect to the internet from time-to-time otherwise the device would lose track of time and no longer store my latest read at the top of the list when I viewed the list by date. Now that I can no longer do so, it never does.

Having several hundred documents on the Kindle and often reading several at once, this makes life complicated, as every time I return to the home screen I then have to hunt down the last thing I read in order to go back to it. It is majorly annoying!

Does anyone have any suggestions about a work-around for this or better explanations why it might be happening?

I have loved this technology for a decade and was expecting to do so for a decade more but now I am being forced to consider an alternative (like a Boox)...
I'd love to hear suggestions...

PS It's a jail-broke DX B008 running 3.2.1.

I've been wondering if it is possible to fully re-flash kindle with the bin update file once it is jailbroken? Since we can mount / as rw so there could be a way of doing that.

"Send to Kindle" docs - incorrect author (surname only)

Hello folks, last year I started using the "Send to Kindle" app for Windows. I used to email mobi files to my Kindle, but Amazon regularly asked me to verify my email address. The App was fine for a while, but after a hiccup before Christmas 2020 (inserting an email address, instead of the book's author) my mobi files now arrive with just the author's surname.

It's not the end of the world but it's not right. I've tried leaving the author name blank (to pick up the author from the metadata), manually typing it and even sending mobi files by email... for the last couple of months all my mobi files arrive with only the author's surname. That's the same result using the app as emailing.

Has anybody else seen this, or better still, have a suggestion how to retain the full author's name?

Troubleshooting Sideloading Issue: eBooks showing up on Kindle Paperwhite device library but NOT on A

I was unsuccessful in troubleshooting my Kindle issues after spending 4 hours chatting with Amazon's customer service. I also searched all over the net but no dice. Would really appreciate your help.

What I'm working with:
  • Calibre Version 5.14
  • Kindle Paperwhite Firmware Version 5.13.4
  • Kindle device was previously registered to a different Amazon account, but
  • have since deregistered it and registered it to my new/current Amazon account.

Steps I've taken:
  • deregistered and re-registered kindle device
  • factory reset kindle device
  • enabled Whispersync (both on device and "Content and Devices" page)
  • ensure email address (gmail) is listed under “Approved Personal Document E-Mail List”
  • Files converted to mobi have [EBOK] personal doc tag

Issues:

Calibre “Send to Device” USB Transfer
  • azw3 = shows up on kindle device library (under “books”) but NOT on "Content and Devices" page (Calibre shows file being on the device)
  • mobi = shows up on kindle device library (under “books”) but NOT on "Content and Devices" page (Calibre shows file being on the device)
  • pdf = shows up on kindle device library (under “docs”) but NOT on "Content and Devices" page (Calibre shows file being on the device)

Calibre Connect/Share
  • mobi = does NOT show on BOTH kindle device library and my cd page (Calibre jobs window shows file was successfully “sent” but does NOT show file being on device)

Gmail Email Attachment
  • mobi, txt, pdf = shows up on kindle device library AND my cd page (under “docs”)

My biggest concern is being unable to use Calibre's USB transfer to sideload an azw3 file (since this is my preferred file type). I had no problem using Calibre's "Send to Device" to sideload azw3 files in the past, but I'm not sure what's happening now.

PW4 Pw4 not weaking up from Deep sleep.

My pw4 started acting weird after the last update. In fact, it works normally until I put it aside for a long time. It cannot wake up from deep sleep. Hangs with the banner weaking up .. Then I have to restart it by holding the switch for a long time and it works normally again.
Is it possible to somehow turn off Deep sleep?
Is it possible to downgrade from the latest software?
Does anyone have such problems too?

I found the option to turn off low-power sleep in the advanced settings of the reader. Maybe this will help, although I feel this is not a permanent solution ...

Find OTA code on reboot

So maybe kernel is doing update stuff I think. I get source code from amazon page and i don't see anything. I also try find files with data that is printed above, but so far no luck. I try to show linux memory too but nothing i think :blink:

I was wondering if someone could help me find where th messy lines (autopilo_update, update_os) come from, if this was already investigated or not.
