Dictionary Showing No Results

Recently, I've noticed that my Kindle Scribe dictionary isn't finding definitions for any words. I looked over the forums a bit and didn't see anyone reporting this recently, but maybe someone can help me out.

This is a Scribe with three different dictionaries installed and I have tested them all. They were previously showing definitions, but now they are not.

I checked the language tag for my books in calibre and they are tagged English.

I'm connected to wifi (I read somewhere that the dictionary needs internet access?).

Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks.

kindle paperwhite 2021 bricked

I stupidly reset my jailbroken kindle paperwhite signature 2021 edition as i wanted to upgrade to the latest firmware.

Unfortunately, my kindle is in spinning circle mode now (see attachment) and even my computer can't enter the kindle drive (shows up as a removable drive but can't go in).

Anyone has any idea what I can try at this point? Thanks a lot!

Limit the number of books on your Kindle device.

I wonder if anyone has reached the limit to realize this?
But I just discovered that the Kindle device only recognizes 15,000 books.
Of course, I understand that this is a very, very, very large number of books. Enough for people to read in their entire lives, maybe not all.
But because I have small short story files, the content is very short, so the number seems quite large.
When sending using the "Send to Kindle" method, you can send a lot of books to the Library. Here, I sent over 16,000 books.
But on my Kindle device (paperwhite 3, 5), they are always limited to displaying 15,000 books, the maximum, cannot be increased even to 15,001. It is a display problem, not a memory-consuming download problem.
Of course, this is just an interesting discovery that I have not found information elsewhere. It's not a big deal. Since no one can read that many books, it doesn't have any widespread impact. I just wanted to share that with you.

PW3 cannot use koreader when I use winterbreak

Can you help me? I used languagebreak to jailbreak on KPW3 before, but due to some unknown issues today, I am unable to use it properly. I am resetting the device to factory settings while using the rename OTABlocker option. (I guess this is the cause of my problem, but I searched the wiki and it seems that the solution he proposed is not effective for me.)
After resetting to factory settings, I tried using Winterbreak, but Koreader couldn't be opened. I tried for 8 hours and searched for various solutions, but still couldn't solve it. I need your help
I'm not sure which logs to export to let you know where the problem lies, so please let me know if you need more information

Unable to install fonts on Kindle Voyage

Hi,
Having a lot of problems trying to install custom fonts. Would appreciate any advice as font developer is as baffled as me.

Tried to install the font Bionic Reading, a font that is designed with the first few letters of each word to appear in bold. The developer sent me both .otf and .ttf files, neither have worked.

I have also tried a different type of bionic font from a different company. That was in .ttf and that also didn't work. There are videos on YouTube of folks able to put these fonts on their Kindles, but it won't work for me.

I have a Kindle Voyage, version 5.13.6. No other update available.

I plug the device in, go into the folder 'fonts', drag & drop the extracted font files into the Kindle folder.

The fonts all appear within the Kindle's font library, and when I click on them *something* happens to the font (turns it into a sans serif font) but there's no bold at the beginning of each word and it's not working.

I have tried to restart the Kindle. I don't know what else to do.
The only hint that might be helpful to say is that when I try to transfer the fonts to the folder, I get an error message:

'Are you sure that you want to copy this file without its properties?
The file BionicReading has properties that can't be copied to the new location'

I'm getting this message for every type of custom font that I'm trying to install. Even happens on Lexand, which is a Google developed font and doesn't have any such boldness on certain words.

Any help massively appreciated.

Kindle 10th Serial Port

Hi,

Does someone knows the location of Serial Pads in the motherboard of the Kindle 10th (KT4 i think it's the nickname).

How to enable KT6's page turning animation?

$

KT6 uses MT8110 CPU, the same as PW5, and it also supports page turning animation, but Amazon does not seem to enable it on FW, so we can see that it works after enabling page turning animation on KOReader. I think it should be possible to enable it by modifying the system file, but since I don't understand the code of Kindle firmware, I have no way to do this. Can anyone try it?

I use the fabulous FBink tool to display text and pictures on my kindle. Is there any easy way to draw upside down or in landscape mode? For example, it would be handy to have the charge port on the top.

KT3 Problems for installing Alpine Linux

Hey, folks!

So I've been trying to install Alpine Linux through the Kual Launcher, but next to the end of the installation, I keep getting the following message repeatedly:

Code:

cp:can't create '/etc/upstart/alpine.conf': Read-only file system
system: I mntroot:def:Making root filesystem writeable mount: only root can do that
system: E mntroot:def:Re - mounting root filesystem failed

Apparently, I cannot execute "mntroot rw". I searched for days a solution for that problem, but couldn't find none.

How do I get an ebook onto my kindle? The book I want is not available for kindle but it is available at Barnes and Nobel as an ebook. If it requires anything technical then I’d rather just get an app to read on my iPad. Thanks.

How to render text boxes on Send to Kindle EPUB KFX

$

0
If you send an EPUB with <fieldset> tags that put boxes around text through Send to Kindle, those boxes won't render.

Most EPUB readers add default CSS to fieldset tags.
https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_fieldset.asp

But apparently Send to Kindle KFX is not one of them.

So you need to add this CSS manually.

Calibre convert to EPUB:

Look & Feel: Styling: Extra CSS

Code:

.system {
  display: block;
  margin-left: 2px;
  margin-right: 2px;
  padding-top: 0.35em;
  padding-bottom: 0.625em;
  padding-left: 0.75em;
  padding-right: 0.75em;
  border: 2px groove;
}

img {
  height: auto !important;
  width: auto !important;
  max-width: 100%;
  display: block;
}

Look & Feel: Transform HTML

If the tag is fieldset
change tag name span
add classes system

Page Setup: Output Profile: Tablet (at the bottom)

Epub Output: EPUB VERSION 3!!

then upload via Send to Kindle website.

Send to Kindle ignores <fieldset> default css that adds boxes and margins around text, so I convert the <fieldset> to <span> and add the missing css manually. system is just a name, I could have called it `anything`

Changed how to reset furthest page read???

$

One of the docs that I sideloaded to my Kindle was from Gutenberg (The Vicar of Bullhampton) and they put all the full screen-sized pictures at the end of the book one after another. So when you click on a text embedded thumbnail that jumps you to the full-page picture. Works great unless you TAP on the screen to go back a page which in most publishing methods would simply collapse the full page picture and take you to the page with the embedded thumbnail.But no in this book it takes you back to the preceding expanded picture. And it worse resets the furthest page read to hundreds of locations in advance from where you were. It used to be simple to just reset the furthest page read. But the new manage content/devices area does not allow you to reset a document file you have uploaded via sideloading. I could be wrong but I thought that it used to? Or did it never work with sideloaded books? Anyway it is driving me nuts as I can find absolutely no way to return the book to where going to sync to furthest page read will not take me to the end of the book. I am reading this book on three different Kindles so I really want to keep them in sync! Is this a problem for all or am I doing something wrong, missing some obvious interface command maybe? How can I reset this file so furthest page read is returned to normal? It is my Colorsoft on the latest system that needs a furthest page reset.

I recently got a new kindle and now the covers of the books are not showing in the library. The covers show on the Lock Screen. I have an older version of calibre (6.29) as my Mac is old now. Is there any way to fix this? I have over 800 books on my kindle currently

I just upgraded to the paperwhite 12 and I am impressed. I had no idea it was bigger than the older models and the screen quality is noticeably better, sharper. I have no regrets getting it even tho I have the previous generations. I got mine at Target. I wish downloads were faster but the screen/print quality is noticeably sharper

Troubleshooting Is my battery reaching EoL or something else?

$

My 2nd hand Voyage has suddenly begun displaying the dead battery warning upon waking up. I plugged it in and it went thru its wake up routine and the battery was 39%. There's no problem unplugging it it stays on. But once I close the cover and open it again it might open to my book or it will suddenly display the dead battery symbol.

Is this a battery issue? I know its old and I don't mind changing it. Or is this something else possibly more serious going on?

How to extend Paperwhite battery life with a powerbank

$

Hi,
I have hacked my PW to be a standalone clock. With the internal battery, I get about 1 week of life before recharging is needed. I thought I could add attach a small battery pack behind the PW (no AC outlet is nearby) and get much more time before recharging is needed. However, with my 20,000mah (14x the internal battery capacity) I am only getting 2x (2 weeks) the duration.
I think this is because of the oddity of the PW current draw at or near 100% of a fully charged PW.
Any ideas on timings for a circuit I might use between the PW and the power-bank that could 'game' the system?
